D and I took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend with a nice long walk along the Burlington Bike Path. The bike path is one of my favorite spots in Burlington, there isn’t a bad view to be had and it winds along some of the most beautiful parks in Burlington.

This look is the perfect mix of the winter staples that have seen me through the cold and the spring pieces I’m itching to wear. A newly acquired vintage sweater, almost long enough to be a dress, I mean a Kardashian would wear it as a dress, was the perfect base for a floral trapeze dress and my faux fur snood. Mom’s old Frye boots and a big ole floppy hat (perfect for showcasing old brooches) brought everything together.

Utterly casual but still feminine. In this case the knotted hem shows off my vintage Rodeo boots and mirrors the twisted, gathered look of the multicolored waist belt I inherited from my mom.

It seems counter-intuitive but in the winter wearing skirts is sometimes warmer than pants. I can layer fleece lined tights and knit leggings under a sheer American Apparel skirt like this one and be comfortable and warm all day long. Layering under pants/jeans is much harder and never comfortable. If I’d planned on being outside for much long I would have added a scarf or second layer of outwear but for running errands this was perfect.

Hello boots, meet the perfect amount of skirt. Plenty of space to show off the boots in all their braided, vintage glory and just enough skirt to keep it interesting.

After lunch at Misery Loves Company (so good) we talked our friend Brett into playing photog which of course meant it turned into a total laugh-fest which is exactly what I needed. Besides, if it is the end of the world why not go out with a belly full of MLC’s famous fries, in the company of friends, wearing a fabulous pair of heels?

Cheers to the weekend and the final push before the holidays!

Boyish Charm

Dollar Store Sunnies, Scarf: Plato’s Closet, Jacket: Ann Taylor, Gingham Button up: Goodwill, Gifted Necklace, Jeans: Hurley, Vintage Shoe Company BootsFor me seasonal transitions are an opportunity to hit the reset button stylewise. Before tackling another season’s styles I like to go back to my casual basics; a military inspired jacket, classic brown boots, gingham, and denim. I stuck with slim silhouettes to round out the rougher, somewhat boyish elements and a big soft scarf and light floral fragrance added the perfect softness.

What style/pieces do you always go back to?

Leaf Peeping in VT

Sunglasses: Zinnia, Scarf: Gift Shop, Jacket: Ann Taylor, Bag: Forever 21,  Flannel: Levi’s (via Goodwill), Leggings: Target, Wellies: Dick’sAfter almost a week straight of rainy days it felt wrong not to get outside and take advantage of an only partly cloudy day so our friend Tim, his dog Boss, D and I drove to Richmond, Vermont and spent the afternoon tromping through the woods along the Winooski River in search of fall foliage.

In the end the best foliage was mostly off in the distance but that didn’t stop us from enjoying our wooded surroundings. I’d forgotten how much I loved the smell of fall and how it clings to your clothes and lingers for a while. It reminded me of the way my clothes would smell after jumping into the piles of leaves my dad would rake when we were kids.

What are your favorite fall activities/memories?

Desert Boots

Jacket: Ann Taylor, Vintage Dress (formerly a maxi dress last seen here): Downtown Threads, DIY Charm Bracelet, Boots: Target

Now that it’s almost two feet shorter I am loving this dress. It was too a bit much yellow for me as a maxi dress so this length is perfect. Somehow these boots found their way into my shopping cart during a trip to Target for contact solution (am I the only one this happens to?) and while they’re a much cheaper version of the Steve Madden Boots I’ve been on the fence about buying for quite some time, they’re pretty great in their own right.

Wore Out’s Look of the Week

This week was hectic but I’m doing my best to keep up and enjoy the ride. I started off the week with a look from the farmer’s market, got honest about a cheap pair of shoes, hung around with a lake monster and indulged at the fair.

If you follow me on twitter then you may have already seen my tweets about Wore Out’s look of the week…

Prissy from Rush Our FashionI simply love everything about this look. From the thrifted military jacket to Prissy’s ultra feminine and totally chic topper. The colors and textures Prissy uses in her outfits just bring them to life. I’ve been searching for a military inspired jacket for so long and now that I know how chic they can be dressed up I am on a mission to find one. On the hunt for a jacket like the one Prissy’s wearing in this post? She suggests heading to your local Goodwill/thrift store and checking the men’s section.

A woman after my own heart Prissy has a seriously enviable collection of accessories, specifically shoes. The best part is you can shop Prissy’s online closet (and wouldn’t you know it she and I are the same shoe size)! So hurry up and check out her online store before I have to buy everything!
