Kermit Coat

Knit Hat: Forever 21, Sunnies: BSJ, Coat: ebay, Ibex Vest (similar), not pictured), long sleeve tee (not pictured): J.Crew, Knit Leggings: TJ Maxx, Wellies: Dick’s Sporting Goods (similar),  Gifted Bag, Mittens, & ScarfThis coat is a lot like my first (and only) car, a 97 forest green Ford Taurus with mint green interior, aptly named Kermit. Kermit was never perfect but I loved it because it was my first car. Eventually Kermit and I had to part ways (near the end stepping on the brakes was a total crapshoot) but that’s neither here nor there.

This jacket, ok so it’s more like a glorified robe, doesn’t just resemble Kermit in color alone; like my first car this coat was better in theory than practice. I’d expected an oversized, “faux” wool wrap coat. What ended up with was an extremely plush, hooded, Robin Hood style robe. Like Kermit it’s not perfect but while it’s working I’m gonna wear it

This outfit is akin to hitting the fashion reset button. The simple and slightly androgynous pieces feel fresh and are the perfect canvas for a mix of accessories.

Oh hi guy leaning on the hood of your car three parking spaces away. Your tractor beam like stares really made these photos look and feel so natural. I’m not the least bit uncomfortable. I am however kicking myself over the ten extra minutes I spent futzing with my camera in the hopes that you would leave. Not only did you stick around (in fact you were still there when I left) but my camera battery died after these two photos.

All snark aside, I love this look. My mom’s teal blouse and the leopard booties I bought myself for Christmas provide the perfect pops of color and effectively snapped me and my wardrobe out of the winter blahs.

Yesterday the weather got the best of me. I stepped outside and it started to rain. Now I don’t mind the rain so much it was the accompanying winds that really got me. I was that person on Main St flaying and fighting with their inside out umbrella. The fact that I was in a classic trench made it all the more comical and somewhat fitting.  All I was missing was a newspaper and a run in my nonexistent pantyhose.

How do you dress for wind and rain?

For the chillier mornings it’s warm and windproof without being bulky. To keep the look from being too dark I added a pop of coral with my Carol Maguire Home peony scarf and ALDO heels. This outfit is just another riff on my favorite look, jeans and a tee. Blue ankle length pants in lieu of traditional jeans, a ruffle front blouse a feminine twist on the white tee, and a leopard belt for fun.

Proper Smoking Slippers

This past weekend I spent a gorgeous fall day playing dress up while the lovely Julie of Julie Howk Photography snapped away with her camera. Not only is Julie an artist behind the lens but she’s got an eye for color pairings and a thirst for adventure unmatched by Indy himself. Dollar Store Sunnies, Navy Blazer & Lace Blouse: Goodwill, Leopard Belt & Slippers: Target, Skirt: Downtown ThreadsScott Disick may have worn them first but these babies are on the fast track to becoming my go to fall flat. Perfect with everything from skinny jeans to babydoll dresses and tights these leopard smoking slippers lend a funky vibe to this otherwise preppy outfit. They’re great for days when you’re on the run or when your feet demand respite from heels. The navy and mustard play well off the leopard accessories and the lace detailing on the blouse rounds out the look with a grounded, feminine feel.

Sometimes I feel sexier in an androgynous outfit than I do in an LBD and heels. The color, fit, and feel of these khakis is exactly what I’ve always wanted in a pant and I want them in every color. It may look casual but it feels fabulous.
