It’s been perfect during this week’s frigid temperatures; the length means that I stay nice and warm and the fully lined heavy wool keeps the icy cold wind out. The rocking plaid and 70’s vibe are pretty great too.

what warm and stylish pieces are you pulling on this week?

The chambray shirt as the casual counterpart to the smart navy blazer and high-waisted dusty pink jeans that scream 70’s high school “it” girl (think the Senior girls in Dazed and Confused). I rounded this look out with a mix of accessories, old and new favorites, and learned that my style comfort zone has expanded further than I ever thought it would.

What pieces have expanded your style horizons?

A New Perspective

Wore Out, Vintage Sunglasses, Green Sunglasses, &0's Sunglasses, Stress, Finding a New Perspective, You know those days where you’re sure the world is conspiring against you and there’s an ever present black cloud hanging over you? Where it feels like you’re trying to swim against the current and the harder you try the further back you get pushed?  Well yesterday was one of those days for me and boy was it tough. Really tough.

Today however is a new day and it requires my favorite vintage sunnies*. Since yesterday’s dark cloud has lifted it’s been a lot brighter and easier for me to see everything I have to be thankful for.

How do you cope with bad/stressful days?

*vintage sunnies were a gift from a friend’s grandmother

Peachy Keen

Sunnies & Tank: Charlotte Russe, Sweater: Shalom Shuk, Bag: Goodwill, Jeans & Platform Peeptoes: UO, Gifted Bracelet & NecklaceThere’s an inherent confidence that comes with a wearing a great fitting pair of jeans. The second you slide them over your hips and button them up you can feel the swagger in your step. Paired with a peachy knit and simple tank I let my inner 70’s siren soar in these flares and damn did it feel good.

what pieces give you swagger and make you soar?

About these pants…

Sunnies: Downtown Threads, Blazer: Saver’s, Tank & Necklace Target,  Blouse: From my mom, Jeans: H&M, Heels: Steve Madden (via T.J Maxx)I spent months searching for the perfect pair of dark wash, high-waisted flares and while D and I were in Montreal I found these at H&M. I thought they were the perfect pair of flares for me… but now that I have them I’m not so sure. They’re trickier to style than I thought and I’m not quite sure they’re flattering.

While I’m undecided about the silhouette the pants are cutting, I’m a big fan of the layers on top. I’ve been playing around with layering shirts and blazers with different lengths a lot since the temps started cooling off.  I liked how the teal blouse from my mom looked cuffed over the little boy’s blazer I scored for a dollar at Saver’s.

What layers and silhouettes are you playing around with this fall?

My 70’s Stroll

To the bright side of the road
We’ll be lovers once again
On the bright side of the road.” van morrison

Since I was having some technical difficulties (grr!) I wasn’t able to share my exciting news with you yesterday so here it is; D and I found an apartment! We signed the lease yesterday and couldn’t be happier! Stay tuned for lots of DIY projects and tons of home decor ideas.

In full stride

Ok, you caught me… I’m posing… kinda

I don’t want to jinx it… but I’m so glad the sun is back it feels like spring again! As I mentioned in my Party Hat & Pumps Post I have a new found love for hats! I’d been searching for a floppy brim, 70’s style, hat for months but none of the ones I’d found were exactly what I wanted so I decided to wait until I found the perfect one and I am so glad I did!

I stopped by  Dirt Chic (an upscale consignment shop in Burlington) on a whim and there was my perfectly floppy hat sitting on one of the rounders. I grabbed it and ran to the mirror (scaring numerous patrons I’m sure) and guess what it fit, perfectly! My grandmother always told me “beautiful things have a way of sneaking into your life when you least expect it” and she couldn’t have been more right!

“It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” J. Wooden

While I was at Dirt Chic I also snapped up this cozy Banana Republic cardi, perfect for cooler spring days! This time of year in Vermont the weather is so unpredictable that layering is a must! I wanted to keep the overall feel of the outfit pretty laid back (aka comfortable) so I kept it simple with some Brenton stripes, dark denim wash button up, and neutral black leggings.

I got these boots last week and I couldn’t be happier with them. I had my heart set on them when they were priced at $79.99, so when I did a little price comparison shopping and found them for $29.99 at shoemetro I was in heaven! I wore these babies all weekend and they are beyond comfortable! I love how they have a little bit of a heel too. I need all the extra height I can get since D is almost a foot taller than I am!

D calls these my bug-eye glasses

What accessories are you looking forward to adding to your spring wardrobe? Have  pieces in your closet found you like my new hat found me?

Got my Party Hat and Pumps on!

My new accessory obsession? Hats!

Oh yes, that’s snow your seeing. This morning Burlington woke up to dusting of new snow… that’s right even though yesterday’s temperatures reached into the 40s and tomorrow is the first day of spring Vermont is still enjoying fresh powder.

Last time I checked it wasn’t suppose to snow in spring!

Hat: Urban Outfitters

Silence & Noise Blazer: Urban Outfitters

Top: T.J Maxx

Jeans: T.J Maxx

Pumps: Steve Madden

As  mentioned in my Friday Finery & Frivolities post this week was so stressful, last night I was dead asleep before 9:30pm! Poor D went to take a shower and by the time he got out I passed out. He said he just rolled me over and kept watching basketball, so I suppose it worked out for the best.

I love the feather and bow detailing!

I just started getting into hats and now I can’t imagine living without them! I usually rock a simple knit winter hat so it’s been fun expermenting with different styles. This spring a 70’s style wide floppy hat will go perfectly with everything from a maxi dress to high waisted jeans. I can’t wait for the warmer weather to return so I can bust on my straw fedora!

This hat just has such a great 70’s vibe to it, I love it! Accessories like this hat are the  perfect way to inject a little drama into any outfit.  You can dress it up like I did above or pair it with your favorite pair of skinnies, classic riding boots, and an over sized tee for a more casual chic look.

Don’t you step on my Blue suede shoes

Tonight D and I are going to a double birthday party, our friends (who happen to be brothers) are throwing a joint birthday party for their girlfriends! I’m looking forward to partying with good friends and lots of dancing; it’s the perfect way to celebrate the weekend and a great excuse to get a little dolled up!

I got this blazer for a fraction of the retail price, thank you to whoever returned this blazer after taking off the tags! You can’t really see it in the pictures but the blazer has a sparkly sheen to it and the lapels are done in a gauzy fabric adding great texture. It’s quickly become my go to piece for a night out. I love how adding a blazer and bold heels takes a casual outfit (skinny’s and a tee) from day to night seamlessly. Finish off the look with a fun hat or a bold clutch and you’re ready to party all night!

Could tonight’s “Super Moon” be getting to me already?

Super Moon? Tonight’s moon will be the biggest full moon in 20 years! I hope the clouds don’t get in the way! Burlington always gets a little wacky when there’s a full moon so I’m interested to see what happens tonight!

What are you doing this weekend? Where are you planning on viewing the “Super Moon”?
