Trousers and Tunics

Sunglasses & Locket: Downtown Threads, Floral Tunic: H&M, Jeans: Old Navy, Jaguar Sandals: Target, Bag: Gifted, Ring: GILT

Comfortable and colorful this outfit was perfect for an afternoon stroll and running a couple of errands. I’ve had this floral tunic for almost 5 years and it has been a great layering piece, versatile enough to be worn as a dress (ill advised unless you’re JLo) and perfect as a top like above.

To offset the looser fit of my tunic top I opted for a slimmer, trouser style jean. The rise is lower than I usually wear but the thinner material and looser fit  make these jeans work. They’re perfect with sandals and a cropped top for a concert on the waterfront or paired with a blouse and bright wedges for date night.

What versatile pieces are you mixing into your spring wardrobe?

Delicate Mullets & Italian Cowboys

I’m still loving this $10 mullet dress from Old Navy. Who knew mullets could could be delicate and feminine? I love the way the dress moves so I tend to sashay from place to place when I wear it… but that’s cool right?

Speaking of being cool… people look at me sideways when I tell them that I picked these short cowboy boots up while living in Florence. Who knew Italian’s could craft such great western wear? They’re one of my favorite pairs of shoes so I was heartbroken when one of the heels completely cracked while D and I were walking home from the bars late one night (D was especially upset as he had to carry me home the rest of the way while I carried my broken boot).

Fortunately there is a killer cobbler in Williston who was able to mend my broken heel and heart. Don’t let the Yelp reviews fool you! If you’re looking for a cobbler with quick turn around time, reasonable prices and boots that come back better than new head to The Town Cobbler in Williston.

Wore Out Lunch Date

After talking about it for weeks my friend Nicole and I were finally able to grab lunch together. Nicole and I met while working in the admissions office at Champlain College (our alma mater) and have kept in touch since. Nicole’s been a huge supporter of Wore Out since the beginning so I was beyond excited when she agreed to do a joint outfit post with me! Unfortunately the weather was terrible when we ducked out to take these shots, so neither of us got to wear our first choice shoes but it was still a blast.

I’m wearing… Blazer: Goodwill, Necklace: Forever 21, Dress: Old Navy, Tights: The Sox Market, Minnetonka Tramper Boot, Assorted Bangles, Leopard Ring: GILT Group, Double Finger Bar Ring: Downtown Threads, “Blinging” Ring: Gift from Nicole!

On Nicole… Cardigan & Belt: Target, Tee: Ann Taylor, Skirt: Old Navy, Thermal Tights, Necklace: Forevermore Creations (Etsy), Croc Boots

I was blown away by how bright and sunny Nicole’s outfit was while being seasonally appropriate. Her mustard yellow cardigan ties her neutral top and floral midi skirt together perfectly and I love how she added the thick braided belt over her open cardigan. My eye was  immediately drawn to Nicole’s necklace it adds the perfect touch of whimsy and detail. When I asked Nicole about it she couldn’t say enough wonderful things about the Etsy shop where she’d found it, Forevermore Creations. The shop is full of fun pieces perfect for mixing and matching and right now all of their sale items are 50% off!

Speaking of sales I bought the “mullet dress” I’m wearing above for $9; $30 off the original price!  It was such a steal I bought one in olive green (above) and one in black. I was a little worried that the unusual hemline would make them harder to style but in fact opposite is true. The hemline turns this simple solid color dress into a funky but versatile layering piece that I’ve been able to wear with everything from moccasins (like above) to heels to riding boots (not bad for $9)!

How do you incorporate color into your winter wardrobe? What would you consider the most versatile piece in your closet?

A Cold & Cropped Casual Friday

Blazer: Vintage via my Mom, Cropped Sweater Top: Old Navy, High-Waisted Jeans: H&M, Oxford Booties & Owl Ring: Forever 21, Two Finger Bar Ring: Downtown ThreadsIt was in the teens when I snapped these photos so please excuse the overly red nose, stiff posing and rushed feel of these images. I was cold and it was windy.

Had I not been concerned about hypothermia I would have loved to show you how this top is perfectly cropped in the front and slightly longer in the back, making it the perfect subtle mullet shirt, but like I said I was cold and it was windy so the blazer stayed on.

While my office has a pretty laid back dress code I thought a cropped top might be pushing it so I paired the subtle mullet shirt with high-waisted flares. While covering my midsection was my biggest concern I also wanted to balance out the boxy shape of the top with a more form fitting pant/bottom. I was concerned that the flares would mess with the proportions but I think they actually gave it a great 70’s feel.

What pieces do you use to balance out boxy tops? How have you styled crop tops in the past?

Down on the Boardwalk

Sunnies: Downtown Threads, Hat: UO, Scarf: Cruise Ship Gift Shop, PeaCoat: H&M, Cardi: UO, Sweater Dress: Gifted, Leggings: Target, Boots: Old Navy, Mustard Seed Necklace: Antique Store in NH, Gemstone Necklace: GiftedIt’s crazy to think that parts of Vermont woke up to the first snow of the year this morning. Burlington avoided the fluffy white precipitation but the temperature stayed steady at just few degrees above freezing so I opted for layers of cozy knits. The white sweater dress has short sleeve so the cardigan provided the perfect extra layer of warmth. I was worried my layers would look too bulky so I kept the bottom half simple with black leggings and short moto boots (that bought half off at Old Navy this past weekend!).

I’m really getting into slouchy knit hats this year and I love how this one matches my blue H&M peacoat. I bought this peacoat while on a trip to Bologna, Italy a few years ago. It was a chilly day and I was foolishly under dressed so I nabbed this coat and have been wearing it ever since. The material is lightweight enough that it doesn’t make me feel constricted when I layer underneath it and it’s thick enough to act as  a great barrier against the wind.

Have you seen any snowflakes yet this year? How do you stay warm and fashionable as the temperatures drop?
