BB Dakota Jacket: Urban Outfitters, Sweater: Burton, Cargos: Levi’s, Cole Haan Ankle Booties c/o 6pm For someone who takes or poses for photos almost daily you’d think I’d be comfortable in front of the camera but when Jonathan of Jonathan Couture Photography first turned the lens on me I felt completely out of my element. I’m used to taking self portraits with my tripod, when no on else is watching, so it took me a few minutes to relax with someone new behind the lens. Luckily Jonathan has a great sense of humor and was quick to set me at ease with encouragement and plenty of coaching. By the end I was trying to nail down another time to shoot together.
who takes your outfit photos? are you camera shy or always close-up ready?

Sunnies: Downtown Threads, Blazer: Goodwill, Sweater: Forever 21, Cargos: Levi’s, Boots: MIA via 6pm, Ring: Florence, ItalyWhen I bought these boots I couldn’t wait to wear them but when they arrived I struggled with how to style them. I waited and waited but the perfect event to debut these beauties never came. Finally I just got over it all and wore them to the grocery store (my favorite testing ground for outfits) and it’s been love ever since.
The classic shape and faded leopard print make transitioning these boots from day to night a snap. I wanted the boots to really pop so I paired them with a twist on a classic trouser and blazer look.
Sometimes you have to wear a piece before you can figure it out.
What pieces in your wardrobe are you still trying to figure out?
Caitlin Necklace: Gifted, Green Necklace: F21, Ring: Charlotte Ruse, Vest: Gifted, Waffle Print Thermal: ?, Tank: H&M (via Clothes Exchange), Skinny Cargos: Levi’s, Belt: Goodwill, Heels: TargetThis outfit is like an onion. I started with a summer staple and ended with a faux fur favorite. I’ve been relying on layers to keep warm during chilly morning walks to work and cool while I’m running around the office during the day. Whenever I put an outfit together I always assume that I’ll remove all my layers so I try to make sure that the each individual layer can pull the outfit together.
I wasn’t sure at first but I actually like how my layers fall at different angles, it breaks the look up and makes the muted colors more interesting.
What layers have you been experimenting with? How do you add interest to outfits?
Blazer: Silence + Noise (via Urban Outfitters), Tee: Target, Cargos: Levi’s, Boots: Blowfish, Skull Ring: Vending Machine, Silver Rings: H&M/GiftedThough I’ve worn these skinny cargo pants a few times I’m still trying to figure them out. I usually wear them with heels (seen here) in an attempt to balance out their utilitarian feel but I kind of like them with these Blowfish boots. My favorite part of this outfit though is the skull ring that I got out of a Price Chopper vending machine late night for 50 cents. Against all odds it fits and makes me feel exponentially more badass, what else could a girl want?
Would you style skinny cargo pants with heels or boots? What accessory makes you feel your best?
Button-up: Wal-Mart, Black Cami: Target, Wood & Gold Bangle: Gifted, Cargo Pants: Levi’s, Snakeskin Heels: Target
I must admit that when skinny cargo pants started appearing I was skeptical but when I came across these Levi’s I decided it was time to give the skinny cargo trend a try. I was surprised by how comfortable and relatively streamlined they were. These were not the cargo pants of my childhood but a more flattering, figure hugging style with the appeal going far beyond their carrying capacity.
If I’m undecided about buying an item while shopping I try and see how many outfits I can mentally plan out using the new piece and my existing wardrobe. If I can’t think of at least two ways to wear the new piece with what I already have than it’s a no. So when I found myself undecided about these cargo pants I paused and found that not only would they work with what I already had but I could easily see them becoming part of my monthly and (possibly) weekly rotation. Oh and did I mention that they were only $14.98.
What new trends have you been slow to adopted? How would you style skinny cargo pants?
