Hi you guys. My name is Tracy from The Closet Shopper. I’m so grateful to Caitlin for asking me to do this guest post. I have really become a fan of her style and so I am very flattered that she’s asked me to do this. Caitlin suggested the topic, packing for vacation. What a great idea. I feel like I’ve gotten this down to a science and I’m really happy to share it with all of you.
I used to way over pack. I would be so afraid that I might need certain things. And you never know what could happen so I would bring everything. Packing caused me great anxiety.
But really, if you think about it, it’s your vacation. Of course you know what’s going to happen and what you’re going to do. Most of us plan a vacation with our daily agenda in mind. And for most of my travels, I can purchase anything that I need for events that aren’t planned when I arrive at my destination. So, there really is no excuse to over pack. And the good news is that no matter where I’m going or for how long I’m traveling, I’m able to bring only one carry-on bag. It’s truly a miracle.
Here’s what I did to facilitate this stress free packing strategy. First, I created a really great packing guide.(See a pic of my packing list below) I realized that if I write down what I need every day I’ll be away, I can mark things off this list while I’m packing to make sure I only bring what I need and no extras. It also helps me eliminate certain things. For example, do I really need three pairs of jeans? One might be enough. I pack one jacket (blazer, coat) and one wrap (cardigan, big open front wrappy wrap). These types of things can go with any and all outfits whether you’re dressing up or down. I wear a scarf that can double for a blanket because I get really cold on airplanes. I bring two pairs of shoes and I wear the biggest and most bulky pair on the plane. Shoes take up the most room in a suitcase. I bring fuzzy comfy socks to wear on the plane so I can take the bulky shoes off during flight. Then I pack the necessities, underthings, belts, jewelry. Since these things are so small you can pack as many as you like.
Here’s what my list looks like. If you would like a copy of this, I would be happy to email it to you. Just drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here’s a pic of what I might wear to the airport. The scarf is easily wrapped around my neck but unwrapped it’s the size of a blanket. So, I will be warm on my flight. The boots are easier to wear than pack. And they are comfortable despite their height. And again, I would bring fuzzy socks to wear on the plane for comfort and warmth.
Thanks for reading this. I hope it helps when you’re deciding what to wear for your next big trip.
